English and Language Arts (ELA)

Title I Reading Support is designed to help all children meet the state content and performance standards in reading and language arts. Children receive extra instruction in reading skills, which may occur in their classrooms, during centers, or practice time. The extra instruction may also be an additional reading lesson outside the regular classroom during the student’s day. Students are selected for support based on district-wide assessments. Title I Reading Specialists assess frequently to monitor progress and to adjust their instruction. Extra lessons might be planned to address identified skill development. Careful, explicit instruction is used in small steps. The student practices on “just right” materials, while the teacher “coaches” the student to be successful.
